Program Description

As a student of the Health Professions Education Teaching post-baccalaureate certificate program, you will examine current pedagogical theories and challenges faced by health professions programs, curricula, and institutions and gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the historical and current foundations of learning, instructional strategies in the health professions and related assessment methods. Graduates will walk away with the knowledge and skills needed to lead educational programs, institutions, agencies, and organizations in the health and medical professions.

The 12 credits earned from this certificate can be used toward the MS and PhD in Health Professions Education.

Certificate Objectives

At the conclusion of their study, students in the PBC in HPE Teaching program will be able to:

Articulate how people learn and the strategies that achieve effective learning processes and outcomes.
Demonstrate evidence-based teaching and assessment methods at the course or program level.
Work effectively in interprofessional teams.
Apply a systematic and evidence-based approach to instructional development of online or hybrid learning environments.

Program Admission

Applicants for admission must meet the minimum admission requirements of the Graduate School. 

Degree Requirements

Students must complete a minimum of 12 credits. Students must maintain a minimum, cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. All courses must be taken for letter grade; courses taken as Pass/Fail (P/F) or Audit (AU) do not count toward the certificate. All requirements for the certificate must be completed within three years after admission and all credits for the certificate must be completed at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
