DBMS 630 GRADUATE STUDENT TEACHING MENTORSHIP IN DENTAL EDUCATION
The primary objective of this course is to provide an opportunity for graduate students to learn basic teaching and evaluation techniques in dental settings. All dentists, at some point in their careers, are responsible for the education of their peers and junior colleagues. Although graduate students are expected to develop clinical and research skills during their residency training and PhD studies, PhD graduate students should also develop abilities as a teacher. This course is designed for students in the DBMS Ph.D. Program holding a DMD/DDS degree or comparable foreign degree. An advanced degree in the interested area is desirable. Course activities are restricted to D1/D2 courses where the State of Maryland dental license is not required (no patient contact). This course uses presential sessions, online seminars with subject-related discussions and self-directed learning (suggested readings) to examine dentistry's educational methodologies. Participants will gain foundational knowledge on the structure and requirements of dental education, how to be an effective and efficient faculty member, and strategies for assessment, feedback, and evaluation of dental students.
