PALC 621 PAIN AND SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT IN PEDIATRIC PALLIATIVE CARE
Management of pain and other physical symptoms is a critical part of palliative care. Participants in this, the second in a series of 4 courses, will learn how to perform a developmentally-appropriate assessment of pain and other physical symptoms. A multimodal approach to managing pain and other symptoms will be addressed, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments. Special considerations will be given to the selection of opioids and other controlled substances, and risk mitigation strategies while using these medications. Participants will also learn how to monitor the patient’s response to the therapeutic intervention, and how to make adjustments that aim to control pain or reported symptom.
